Pool Chemicals
Getting pool chemistry right in Perth is not the same as following the generic guide on the back of a bottle. Our water is harder than most Australian capitals because it runs through limestone aquifers loaded with calcium and magnesium, and if your house is on bore water in suburbs like Ellenbrook or Wanneroo, those mineral levels climb even higher. Add a UV index that sits above twelve for most of summer and burns through chlorine faster than you can dose it, and you start to understand why so many pool owners end up chasing their tail with chemicals that never quite balance. Adrian Mole has been sorting Perth pool water since 2003, and we stock a complete range of pool chemicals at our Burns Beach shop so you can keep your pool crystal clear without guessing.
Why Perth Pool Water Needs A Different Approach
Most pool chemicals are formulated for average Australian conditions, but Perth is not average. Calcium levels in bore water from the Wanneroo aquifer regularly test above 250 ppm, which means calcium chloride is rarely something you need to add. More often, you need to manage the calcium you already have before it scales your cell, clogs your filters and turns the waterline white. Cyanuric acid is the other one that catches people out. It protects chlorine from UV breakdown, but once it builds past 80 ppm your sanitiser stops working effectively and the water looks balanced on paper while algae growth creeps in underneath.
We see this pattern every week at Burns Beach. Someone brings in a water sample showing numbers that look fine, but the pool has a faint green tinge or a chlorine smell that will not go away. That smell is not too much chlorine. It is chloramines from contaminants like sunscreen, sweat and organic matter that have not been oxidised properly. A shocking dose of liquid chlorine or an oxidiser like Lo Chlor Shock N Swim breaks those chloramines apart and clears the water fast.

What We Stock And Why It Matters
We do not just stock chemicals. We stock the ones that work in Perth conditions and we can explain why each product earns its shelf space. Every product on our page is something Adrian has used on jobs across Joondalup, Rockingham and everywhere in between.
Sanitisers And Chlorine
Clearchem Liquid Chlorine is the workhorse. It is unstabilised, so it does not add cyanuric acid to your water the way granular chlorine does. For pools already sitting high on stabiliser, liquid is the only safe option to keep dosing without pushing CYA past the point where your sanitiser becomes useless. We also carry Lo Chlor Chlorine Remover for the opposite problem, when an accidental overdose or a faulty chlorinator spikes levels and you need to bring them down before anyone can swim.
Balancers And Stabilisers
pH balancers and alkalinity adjusters are the backbone of any chemical routine. Clearchem Hydrochloric Acid brings pH down when it drifts above 7.6, which happens constantly in Perth because our source water is naturally alkaline. Clearchem Alkalinity Increaser corrects low total alkalinity, which causes pH to bounce around and makes every other chemical you add less effective. Stabilisers like Clearchem Cyanuric Acid protect your chlorine from UV, but Adrian will check your levels before recommending a dose because overdoing it is harder to fix than underdoing it.
Specialty Chemicals
Algaecide keeps algae at bay between chlorine doses, particularly through autumn when leaf matter sinks to the floor and feeds bacteria you cannot see. Clarifiers bind fine particles that your filter cannot trap on its own and sink them to the bottom for vacuuming, which is how you turn cloudy water clear when the filter alone is not enough. Stain removers and metal sequestrants like Lo Chlor Spotaway deal with the iron and manganese that bore water carries. Left untreated, those metals oxidise and leave brown or black stains on fibreglass and pebblecrete that eat into the surface over time.
Clean Cell Plus is one Adrian uses on almost every service visit. It dissolves calcium scale from chlorinator cells without you having to soak them in acid, which saves money on cell replacements and keeps your chlorinator running the way it should.
How We Help You Get The Balance Right
Bring a water sample into our Burns Beach shop any day of the week and we will test it on the spot. Not a dip strip check. A proper test that shows chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium, cyanuric acid, salt and metals. Adrian reads those results in the context of your pool, your equipment and your suburb. A Scarborough pool copping salt air and bore water needs a different chemical plan to a Zodiac equipped fibreglass pool in Duncraig running scheme water.
Tom Atkinson put it simply in his review. Adrian gave us great service at a great price. Reliable and no nonsense. Would definitely use again. Was nice to find someone who did not make us pool novices feel like idiots. That is the approach. We would rather spend ten minutes showing you what each chemical does and when to use it than have you back next week with the same problem and a cupboard full of bottles you added in the wrong order.
We also refer customers to our learn page for guides on maintaining balanced water between visits, so you are not relying on us every time something looks off.
