Pool Chlorinator Repairs
Your chlorinator stopped producing two days ago. The pool is turning green. You tried adjusting the salt level, cleaning the cell with a mild acid solution, checking the power supply. Nothing. That is when most pool owners call us.
At 1 Pool Care, we handle salt water chlorinator repairs, salt chlorinator repairs and cell replacements from Joondalup to Rockingham. Adrian Mole has been doing this since 2003 with Cert 3 in Pool and Spa Operations and SPASA accreditation. We carry parts for the chlorinator brands we see most, Zodiac, Davey, AstralPool, Pentair and Hayward.

What Your Pool Chlorinator Actually Does
A salt chlorinator converts dissolved pool salt into chlorine through electrolysis. Pool water passes over the salt cell, an electrical charge splits the sodium chloride and chlorine is released. When working properly you get consistent chlorine output.
Calcium buildup coats the cell plates over time and reduces chlorine efficiency. Perth bore water makes this worse. In Wanneroo and Ellenbrook, calcium hardness sits above 300 ppm from the tap. Cells scale faster and burn out sooner. On bore water your salt cell might need cleaning every six to eight weeks during swimming season. Our qualified technicians understand these conditions.
Our Pool Chlorinator Repair Process
When you contact us, we turn up with a full kit. No empty handed visits.
We inspect the salt cell first, checking for visible calcium buildup, cracks in the cell housing and whether the cell is producing. Tiny bubbles at the outlet mean it is working. No bubbles means no production.
We do testing on salt level, pH, stabiliser and calcium hardness. A low salt reading triggers error codes on most chlorinators and shuts production down.
We check the power supply and control board. Indicator lights and error codes tell us whether the issue is the cell, board or connection. Corroded terminals are common along the coast where the Fremantle Doctor eats into wiring.
If the repair is straightforward we fix it on site. If the cell needs replacement, we advise on cost and whether restoring the unit is cost effective. For complex repairs we can send units to the manufacturer if still under the manufacturer’s warranty.
Signs Your Swimming Pools Needs Pool Chlorinator Repairs
Most pool owners do not think about the chlorinator until something goes wrong.
Green or cloudy water. If chlorine is not holding despite the system running, the cell may not be producing. Cloudy water with a correct salt reading points to a dying cell.
Error codes on the display. A Zodiac chlorinator flashing low salt when the level tests fine means the cell is scaled. A Davey unit showing a flow error might have debris in the flow switch rather than a pump issue.
Your pool pump runs but chlorine output stays at zero. The cell may have reached end of life, typically three to five years depending on usage and water chemistry.
Higher power bills. A failing cell draws more current for the same performance. We see this in Ellenbrook where customers notice Synergy bills climbing.
Flaking around the cell housing indicates leaks or failed seals. Safety matters because a leaking cell can corrode nearby filter unions and pump connections.
